I have nearly 30 years of experience in the design field. I possess strong skills in design, branding, illustration, conceptualizing and art/creative direction. The linking factor throughout my career has been that I specialize in managing complex projects and subjects by breaking them down into manageable components. This compartmentalized approach, along with a clear understanding of big picture goals, allows me to create highly effective solutions that are proven to both stimulate consumer awareness and increase retention.
At this point in my career, I have learned that the people you choose to work with can make all the difference in the world. We work in a hectic field where speed and cost is delicately balanced with creativity and time. I prefer to be surrounded by professionals who genuinely enjoy what they do. It is also nice if they know how to be calm in a crisis and possess enough empathy to not lose touch with their human side.

SHORTCUTS

For the past 14 years, I have primarily been using my graphic design/illustration/writing skills to educate and entertain millions of readers through my internationally syndicated feature “Shortcuts.”

Shortcuts is a weekly feature that is designed to run in newspapers. Shortcuts runs in more than 450 newspapers worldwide and reaches more than 30 million readers each week. To date, I have created more than 500 issues of Shortcuts.

Before Shortcuts, all children’s features used a compartmentalized approach using a dozen or so individual components. Newspapers could vary the size of the feature by eliminating or adding components. Shortcuts was the first children’s feature to be delivered in individualized layouts that were designed specifically for the various newspaper size formats.
